Human Factors on Engineering

Engineering design can not disregard the mistake of human factor. Human Factors investigates the cognitive and physical capabilities of humans at work. On developing the design human use a mathematical and statistical models, methods, and algorithms, this analyzes both individual and team behavior at different levels of abstraction in order to quantify and predict human performance. Human performance study can be developed by use of methods and tools to in the laboratory and in the field. The results inform the design and construction of user interfaces, physical equipment, and training interventions.

Research and industrial applications example include:
tomahawk missile control displays for the US Navy,
team communication and coordination studies in surgery and pediatrics,
medical simulator design and construction for training physicians at UVa,
eye-tracking interventions to aid the disabled,
computational models of the neural basis of touch for neural prosthetics,
synthetic vision displays,
radar displays of weather data for emergency managers and the weather forecasters.

Those all examples have been developed and applied on the specific area, every job environment and every job characteristic may have a different model for analysis the human factor mistake on their job. The model must be modified every time and adapted to the circumstance changes that may happen.
