Tsunami Engineering Laboratory

After a tsunami disaster in North Indonesia, many government and scientist aware about the nature rule and the nature event on the next day. After many exploration and exploitation from a stomach of the earth, then the world become unstable. This event then being study more detail by many researcher.

One of organization that aware on tsunami disaster is TEL. The TEL aims to develop integrated technologies for reducing tsunami disaster, including:

1. developing early warning systems to alert coastal residents,
2. implementing and maintaining an awareness/educational program on the indicators of tsunami dangers through databases, computer graphics and the results of field investigations, and
3. producing tsunami hazard maps to identify areas susceptible to flooding/inundation.

TEL thinks that for good relationship of human being with the nature, essentially need to understand the natural phenomena and find out a proper coexistence of human on the earth. TEL intends to carry out the interdisciplinary research on the nature and through the tsunami study.

Major Themes
For more then two thousand years, the Japanese have recorded the catastrophic destruction of shorelines, so the TEL in aware of the tradition, does research in several fields, including: developing with the help of numerical forecasting early warning system to alert coastal residents implementing and maintaining an awareness on the indications of tsunami danger through databases, computer graphics and the result of field investigations producing tsunami hazard maps to identify areas suscepible to flooding and inundation
